specs-graphics-isightThe weekly word is back. I hope everyone had a great holiday season. This week’s word is iSight. iSight is the camera which comes built in to most of Apple’s computer models as well as Apple’s Cinema displays. The iSight camera is built in to the MacBook Pro, MacBook, MacBook Air and iMac. The only model which does not include it is the Mac Mini, which is obviously lacking a display to begin with. This camera can be used to take pictures, participate in a video chat or record a video.

To take a photo with your iSight, open up the application “Photo Booth”, found in your Applications folder. You should now be able to see yourself. Click on the camera icon. It will give you a count of 3 and then take the picture. There are also many different effects that you can play around with. Just click on “Effects” to the right of the camera icon and play around with them. You can check out all of the different ones and just double click to chose the one you want to use.

To start a video chat, open up iChat. Next, click on the little green camera next to the name of the person you want to initiate the chat with. Not all people, including those with web cams will have the ability to do a video chat with iChat, but that green camera icon is an indication that the other user is able to participate. Once you click that button, a window will your own iSight view and it will send an invitation to the other user to see if they will video chat with you. If the person you want to chat with does not have iChat, you can also download a third-party program, such as Skype.

Lastly, to film a movie on your iSight, open up iMovie. Click on the camera icon on the left sideĀ  and click on “Capture.” You can stop at any point by clicking “done.” You can edit your video right within iMovie.

So, there is the short on iSight. Please let us know if you have any questions.
