Many of you will recall that the last version of Intuit’s personal financial software came out in 2007. So here we sit, 2010, and we finally have a new version of Quicken for Mac. But was it worth the wait?
Reviewers have mixed feelings. The main gripe from most mac users (BestMacs included) is that there isn’t feature parity from the PC version to the Mac, and while Quicken, brandishing their newly acquired Mint.com team, has re-written the app from the ground up, they still havent gotten that bit right. PC users still get more features. It appears that this is geared toward first time financial software users and the more advanced users will still have to wait for features like bill pay, and investment tracking.
I cant tell you how disappointing this release is. Intuit has made a product that feels like it belongs on a mac, but has left all the meat and potatoes out of this first attempt. Here is to waiting patiently for a more feature rich version in the future. Quicken Essentials for Mac will only run on Intel hardware and is only supported in 10.5 and 10.6.
